12-2-79 (Week 12, Day 2, Year 79)
PSALM 12
The protection of the LORD. This Psalm is a prayer to deliver and protect the faithful. When do we feel we are surrounded by the wicked and are being swallowed by the evil? I feel safe from enemies, but I am ever aware of those feel they are being mistreated and who would destroy by violence others. These who commit mass shootings and kill innocent people, are they seeking to destroy God and good in our world? Our self-image should include the fact we are created in the image of God and are of infinite worth. Committing a violent act against another human being indicates a severe lack of self-love.
JOHN 11
JOHN 11: 1-45 THE RAISING OF LAZARUS
JOHN 11: 1-16 JESUS DELAYS. THE DEATH OF LAZARUS
There is much about Jesus packed into this passage. The family of Lazarus, Martha, and Mary are very close to Jesus. JOHN reveals that there is love and trust between them and Jesus. When Lazarus is sick, the sisters send for Jesus. He plans to use the sickness and death of Lazarus to show that the LORD who sent Jesus has power over death
JOHN 11: 17-37 THE LAMENT OF THE SISTERS. JESUS COMFORTS THE SISTERS.
Martha comes to meet Jesus while Mary stays at home. She says; “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” Mary states the same words when she sees Jesus. Jesus then declares that Lazarus will rise again. Martha believes Jesus is speaking of the day of resurrection in the future time. Jesus claims to be as the LORD God: “I am the resurrection and the life…” Martha makes the confession of all believers: “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world.” Jesus is moved by the weeping of Mary and weeps for his friend Lazarus.
JOHN 11: 38-44 CALLING FORTH THE DEAD. JESUS RAISES LAZARUS FROM THE DEAD
Jesus calls for the opening of the tomb by rolling away the stone covering the tomb. Then he prays that the Heavenly Father would allow Lazarus to rise as a sign that the LORD sent Jesus. Lazarus then comes from the tomb.
JOHN 11: 45-57 THE PLOT TO KILL JESUS INTENSIFIES. The Jewish Leaders are challenged to believe but they plan to kill Jesus to keep the Romans from destroying Jerusalem. Ironically the Romans do destroy Jerusalem in the year 70.
THE PLAN TO KILL JESUS
THE MAN WHO CREATES GOD-SIGNS. Jesus is sought by the Leaders to be arrested.

GALATIANS 6 Paul ends the letter with ethical duties and the need to forgive one another.
GALATIANS 6: 1-10 PAUL OFFERS THE GALATIANS SEVERAL MAXIMS BY WHICH TO JUDGE THEIR BEHAVIOR.
THE CREATION OF A NEW NATURE
When we know when someone is committing a sin, it is difficult to confront someone because Jesus warns to not judge for we will be judged in the same way. The sign of the church is that we bear one another’s burdens. We are to sow seeds of the Spirit so that we will receive eternal life. The earthly life of a Christian can be summarized as “whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith.”
GALATIANS 6: 11-18 POSTSCRIPT. Most of Paul’s letters were transcribed and written down by a scribe but here at the end of Galatians Paul chooses to write the ending. He draws attention away from those who boast of being circumcised to his own boasting of preaching the crucifixion of Christ. Paul himself had been beaten because of his standing in faith of Jesus as being the Christ.
NOTHING BUT THE CROSS
