12-3-80 (Week 12, Day 3, Year 80)

PSALM 62 “E” 12 verses

SONG OF TRUST IN GOD ALONE: To the Leader; according to Jeduthun.  A Psalm of David. “E”  God alonE is my rock and my salvation.

This Psalm gives a description of what the LORD God means to all Christians.  We cannot be moved or shaken.  A refrain is repeated: “For God alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation.  God alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall never be shaken (Psalm 62:1-2).”  “For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from Him,  God alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken (Psalm 62:5-6).”

This Psalm identifies the true spirit of prayer. Much of Psalm 62 is a request to God to deliver the poet from his enemies.  One interesting translation by Artur Weiser in his 1962 edition of THE PSALMS of steadfast love is grace.  Hesed is the Hebrew word translated Steadfast love. I like the idea of grace replacing steadfast lovein the Psalms.

JOHN 12

JOHN 12: 1-11 JESUS RETURNS TO BETHANY, THE HOME OF BELOVED DISCIPLES.  ANOINTING HIS FEET-MARY POURS PERFUME ON JESUS-The JRPL want to kill Lazarus and Jesus.

Sometime after the raising of Lazarus, Jesus returns to Bethany for a dinner.  Mary anoints Jesus’ feet with perfume.  Jesus is anointed four times in the Gospels before his crucifixion. Twice on his feet and twice on his head.  This is the only name the anointer is identified with.  When Mary, the sister of Lazarus is linked with LUKE 10:38-42 we find a woman seeking to glorify her friend, savior, and Lord.  We must examine our own devotion to Jesus with this example.  The conspiracy against Jesus to kill him now includes the murder of Lazarus.  There is no evidence that the Leaders believe Jesus is the Messiah sent from the LORD God.

JOHN 12: 12-36 CONFUSION IN JERUSALEM.

SEE HOW YOUR KING COMES-Palm Sunday-JESUS ENTERS JERUSALEM

A GRAIN OF WHEAT MUST DIE-JESUS TELLS ABOUT HIS COMING DEATH

Jesus enters Jerusalem with the reception of a king of peace.  The Leaders are jealous and realize they cannot take Jesus and kill him because “the world has gone after him.”  Jesus tells them the parable of the grain of wheat comparing himself to a seed that must be planted that a new nation be born.

JOHN 12: 37-50 JUDGMENTTIME.  The image Jesus gives is the light of God in in him and when Jesus is rejected then God is rejected.
