13-6-90 (Week 13, Day 6, Year 90)
PSALM 113 A HYMN TO THE JUST GOD
This Psalm was sung before the Passover feast. The author identifies the vast glory of God and at the same time acknowledges the concern of God for three kinds of people who were ignored by society: “the poor”; the needy; and “the barren woman.” On this day, the debate about immigration drones on and on. Each party in our country calls the other a liar. We as followers of Jesus must acknowledge God cares for the immigrants and refugees. They are the poor, needy and barren. We are required to treat these people with respect. The LORD God is a wonderful and mysterious force in our world, glorified and yet caring for the least in our world.
The LORD “rescues the wretched who’ve been thrown out with the trash.”
Hallelujah means to PRAISE THE LORD.
If we are rich we need to be humble, if we are poor then we need to see the help from the rich as blessings from the LORD.
THIS BEGINS THE SECOND CYCICAL OF THE GOSPELS.

MATTHEW 1: 1-17 JESUS’ GENEALOGY
THE FAMILY LINE OF JESUS
MATTHEW 1: 18-25 THE CONCEPTION AND BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST
Matthew, Mark, and Luke comprise the Synoptic Gospels which relate the coming of Jesus to earth as a representative of the Creator God. Matthew is a disciple and eyewitness to the life of Jesus. The Gospels are written about the salvation of God given to us by Jesus’ death and resurrection. All the Gospels are written many years after the resurrection of Jesus and witness to the effect upon those who knew Jesus. Matthew and Luke seek to relate the birth of Jesus to historical events and to the historical context. The family tree of Jesus begins with Abraham.
Four women are included in the genealogy which is highly unusual: Tamar (Genesis 38), Rahab (Joshua 2), Ruth, and Bathsheba (mother of Solomon). The term Messiah is translated Christ or the Anointed One.
THE BIRTH OF JESUS. Joseph is the central character with Mary being taken care of by God in a dream of Joseph. The prophecy of Isaiah is used to “prove” the prediction of Jesus as Immanuel (which means God with us)
JESUS CHRIST IS BORN.
